Interferometric retrieval of body waves from ambient noise recorded at surface stations is usually challenged by the dominance of surface-wave energy, in particular in settings dominated by anthropogenic activities (e.g., natural resource exploitation, traffic, and infrastructure construction). In this work, we develop a method of P wave anisotropic tomography to reveal the detailed 3D heterogeneous and anisotropic structure of the Japan subduction zone, under the hexagonal anisotropic assumption with a freely oriented symmetry axis.
